  • Hi there! I'm the School Adjustment Counselor at Lura A. White for grades 3-5. Let me give you a glimpse into my background—I completed my undergraduate studies at Roger Williams University, majoring in Psychology and Educational Studies. During my time at RWU, I also worked part-time as a teacher's assistant at a Head Start Program in inner-city Providence, sparking my passion for becoming an adjustment counselor. This role inspired me to assist students in overcoming challenges beyond the classroom, fostering their academic growth.

Additionally, I was a member of the cross-country team during my time at RWU. Opting for a school by the ocean was a natural choice for me, as I've always cherished the beach and swimming, and running allowed me to immerse myself in the coastal views of Rhode Island.

Prior to joining the Lura A. White school community, I worked as an assistant providing in-home therapy at Seven Hills and also worked as a school social worker. During this period, I pursued my master's degree in School Adjustment Counseling from Assumption University in Worcester, MA.

Outside of work, you might find me enjoying walks with my German Shepherd Black Lab mix named Cash, or discovering new small business coffee shops.

I am deeply dedicated to student well-being and strive to cultivate a nurturing environment for all our students at the school. I am thrilled to meet each of you and collaborate to ensure the success and happiness of our students in grades 3-5.

  • Hello, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Haley Flaherty-Dawson (Ms. FD) and I am the School Adjustment Counselor for K-2 students at Lura A. White Elementary School. I feel very lucky to get to be a part of this wonderful staff, and school community. I received two Bachelor's degrees, one in Psychology and one in Elementary Education (grades 1-6) from Framingham State University. I received my Masters degree in School Counseling/School Adjustment Counseling from Merrimack College.

Since I was a freshman in high school I have been working with kids! I have worked in afterschool programs (K-8), a preschool classroom, been a long-term building substitute (K-5), an elementary educator (K and 5th grade), a college academic success coach, and am currently the director of all summer camp programs at Good Pickin’ Farm. I not only have the perspective of a School Adjustment Counselor, but also the lens of a previous elementary educator, and as a parent. I am a mom myself to my ten-year-old son Parker. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being active and outdoors, as well as relaxing with a good book on the beach!

I am excited to continue working with students in classrooms, in small groups, and individually. My primary responsibility is to help remove barriers to learning so that students can achieve success (socially, academically, behaviorally, emotionally, etc). I also will promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students! I truly believe that a holistic approach, looking at the whole student, is the best way to work with and to best support students! It is essential to me that I work as a team closely with parents/caregivers, teachers, administration, and all staff to ensure your child is receiving all the support and strategies that they need to navigate their school year! Lastly, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, check-ins, or information about your student! I am here to support both you, and your students this year! I look forward to another wonderful year of learning, collaborating, and growing together!
